Where do sock's go?

It's an amazing phenomenon how socks get lost. I finished my first sock knitted with my hand died yarn and I started the second sock and am at a point where I need to make sure that the ribbing is the same as the first sock. you think i can find the first sock? cant find it any where. it's driving me nuts because I had just seen it and put it in a very safe place.

I've been pretty busy since my last post part of that is due to the fact that it's summer and I can hardly stand to be in side when it's so nice out. So I've been spending a lot of time at the torch and gardening. plus this time of year there are so many festival going on in Seattle I hate to pass any of them up. the one thing I haven't done yet which is on my list of "to do's" is go to the zoo. now sure if I'll be able to get that one checked off the list.

Oh, and I've been learning how to spin. a friend lent me her wheel and I've been having a great time with it. the only problem is that I cant seem to figure out how to ply my yarn. I end up with a mess and my friend has been out of town so for now I just look at it sitting there.

Getting lots done...

I'm still on a roll and it feels good! I just finished the sock that I started a couple of months ago. For some reason this sock has taken much more time than usual and I still have the second sock to go but it's a beautiful sock and made with yarn I died myself. There are so many things I want to knit but I'm not letting myself have several projects going, it's one project at a time for this kid.

on the bead front, I've been getting lots of beads made. I'm getting on the torch at least twice a week if not more and I'm getting jewelry made. Right now I'm in the process of designing my own toggles. I can never find toggles that I like except for one company but their toggles are so expensive! The issue I've been having is what medium to make the prototypes out of so then I can take it to the casters to make into sterling silver. My first idea was to make it out of sterling silver square wire, well that was a bust, I'm not very good at soldering yet and I need to saw my wire perfect so the joints meet with no space so it will take the solder, well, I'm not very good at that either. So then there was the thought of using PMC (precious medal clay), I decided against that for now, the stuff is really expensive and I'm not sure if I can make it without texture (I want a smooth deigning). Then I though Fimo! So I bought some Fimo and actually made one of the toggles designs but when I went to move it to take it to the oven to bake the whole thing distorted, I forgot that the stuff doesn't stiffen if left out so I scratched that idea. So now I'm trying jewelers wax and going to try and carve out my design. It's going to be an interesting process, I started it just a bit ago and was using those plastic templates that architects use that have different size circle, squares, triangle etc. Once again I realized that using these template wasn't accurate enough so I'm going to create my design in Photoshop (my favorite program in the world besides Dreamweaver). And if all this fails I'm just going to find someone who can take my deign idea and create it for me. But in the meantime I'm learning a lot.

I also bought a couple of new tools one of which I already got and the other I'm weightings for and I'm so excited about them!!! The one I already received and LOVE is the Smith Little Torch. I'd been using a cream brule torch for quite a while for doing fusing and solder but it really sucked, it was slow and I would end up with my scrap silver because the end result was poop. So I took the dive and bought the torch and what a pleasure to use. I was trying to repair a pair of earrings for a friend with no luck at all, as a matter of fact I nearly ruined the earring (hope Terri isn't readying this). But with the little torch I was able to fix it instantly! The second thing I bought which I'm weightings for is for beading and it's called "The Creation Station" it's a set up for my torch that helps with ergonomic. I've been getting a lot of wrist and arm pain after spending some time at the torch. A friend of mine has one so I sat at her torch the other day and it really felt good, there is wrist support and elbow support. The really cool thing besides the fact that it will help my arms and wrists is that when I called around I found a guy who is a rep for the company that makes them and he had a slightly used one that he sold me for a quarter of the price. yippy, I love to save money.

Well, this has been an extremely long post so I better end here and get to the torch.

Heading up hill

So what does "heading up hill" mean? It means that things are going pretty good for me lately, I'm able to climb that hill of life (how corny does that sound). I've been so productive lately, spending a decent amount of time at the torch, working 2 days a week, taught a privet lampworking class (and have another one in July), started and finished a website for "fire and Rain" the ISGB chapter that I stared here in Seattle. Having time to visit with friends and even getting a little knitting in here and there. It feels good to be so productive and I hope it lasts. Though the one thing I have notices is that I'm loosing almost everything I touch. Lost the car keys for about a week. Then lost some paperwork that was borrow to me and now... I've lost an orders that I need to place an order for more jewelry equipment (maybe its a sign that I should be buying it). Wow, after reading what I just wrote I sound like I'm on speed.

I'm really enjoying working at Fusion Beads but my feet still hate it. I really like working with the public, I meet so many interesting people and I have to confess, I'm really trying to network, I'm always looking for that one person who works at a webshop and needs another person to work for them. Oh, and Fusion wants to start carrying my beads! I'm very excited about that mostly because it's more money in my pocket and man do I need $$.

My poor feet!!!

What do you do when your feet hurt so much that they feel like your walking on jagged rocks? I really love my job a Fusion but being on my feet for 8 hours is kicking my butt!!! there is no way I'm going to give up my job but i have to figure out a way to get my feet to be a little happier. it's so funny, they've now have a life of their own. come Wednesday night they begin to tremble with the thought of having to got to work the next day. Same thing happens Friday night when they realize that they'll be going to work the next day. they have such dread. I know it sounds so strange but it's true. I look forward to go to work but my feel are scared to death. I ware really good shoes. I have always spent the big bucks for good shoes. I haven't always had this problem. I use to be able to ware any kind of shoe with no problem but after I spent 8 months traveling through South East Asia in flip flop's my feet have never been the same. I've seen doctors, I have orthotics wear good shoes nothing helps. so if anyone has any idea's I would love to hear them.

I've been slow with my knitting. I'm lucky to get two row's knitting on my socks. and the sweater for Penny is just sitting there. I have been making beads and jewelry however I'm feeling this need to change my style but I cant seem to come up with a new style. I sat down last night to make earring's and couldn't do a thing. I just didn't want to make the same old thing. I want something new, fresh, hot! but nothing come to me. Guess I'll just keep starring at all my beads and finding and see if anything jumps out at me.

Will summer ever get here?

This post title was originally "Summer is here for today" when I wrote this it was 80 degrees. I had hoped it lasts for awhile but of course it didn't. I love it when it's HOT! But I didn't get back to it. I wanted to double check my spelling (I'm a horrible speller) but time got away from me and now after almost 2 weeks I'm finally getting this posted. Sorry about the old news. I'll post some new news tomorrow (last famous words).

An update on the job thing. I went to the Washington Citizen Action for the obscure and it seem to be OK, I'm not fond of phone soliciting but I can do it if I have to (use to be a bill collector) but they weren't flexible with the hours nor was Fusion. My hours at Fusion are from 9:45am till 6:00pm and the hours at Washington Citizen Action were from 5:00pm till 9:00pm. So I choose to go with Fusion. I've already worked 2 day and like working there. The only problem I have is being on my feet for 8 hours. I'll tell you, my dog's were barken. I don't do well standing all day long not only do my feet hurt but my back starts to give me problems and by the time I get home I have to jump into a HOT tub and they lay down with my feet up in the air. It's sad to be getting old. But other than that the job is good. The people are nice and I enjoy working with customers.

That's probably the most exciting thing that's happened to me all week. I'm still on a cooking roll. I'm not sure what's gotten into me I keep coming up with new dishes and am having a blast.

Got a lot of gardening done on Sunday and it felt good to be out in the sun (even tough I forgot to put sun screen on and am burnt to a crisp). Weeded around my studio and set up a nice little waterfall for the fish pond. The sound is so nice. Saw a Wilson's Warbler never saw one in our garden before so it was a real treat. I'm still working on that darn little bitty sweater for Penny and still working on my socks,I'm getting ready to do the heal. I'm really not in a hurry for either now that it's summer so I'm just plunking away at both of them.

Cooking Inspiration and Puppy Cuteness!

Been a long couple of weeks and lots has happened. Let’s see, where do I start? I’ve been applying for jobs like crazy and actually had a couple of interviews so I had to get myself something to ware seeing I’ve out grown everything I own. The first interview was with Fusion Beads and the other was with Washington Citizen Action they are working on healthcare reform which I feel so strongly about, being someone who has to pay out of pocket for her own healthcare and may have to go without healthcare because it’s gotten so expensive. As it stands right now, I got the job at fusion beads which if part time, two days a week. The other one is also part time working evening from 5:00 to 9:00 (which will cause me to discontinue going to Patti’s for craft night) I’m going Tuesday night to observe, to see if it’s something I want to do and for them to see if it’s something I can do. The job basically entails calling member on the phone asking for money, and coming form someone who hangs up on phone solicitor. I’m not to sure how well I’ll do, the only thing going for me is that fact that I believe in the issue so strongly. Then on Friday I decided to head out to Eastern Wa to visit my friend Terri again. I figure with the possibility of having two jobs who knows when I’ll get to see her again.

Also last week I got really creative with cooking. Now I’m one of those people who wish there was a pill I could take, rather then having to take the time to figure what to eat, preparing it and then having to sit down and eat it. But I had a lot of fun cooking up a storm, I should have taken pictures. And so far it seem like I’m still on a cooking roll. Today I made Asparagus soup. I bought a bunch of Asparagus while I was at Terri’s and thought I would pickle them but today I decided on soup.

On the knitting front, I finished Alex’s sweater and it turned out great (photo to come later) now I’m making a sweater for my bothers girlfriends dog which is a 3 month old Yorkie and man she small I mean she is extra small she cant be more than 1/2 lb. (I didn't knit the sweater that's she's wearing in this photo) Basically I’m knitting a sock that will have holes for her legs and head.

Meet Penny!

and I just have to share this cute picture of Penny and Jix (my brothers Rat Terrier who's only 6 months old)

I told my brother he needs to send this picture to Cute Overload

I’m also still working on my socks and planning my next project which will be a shawl. I’ve had the yarn but haven’t been able to find a pattern I like. Well, last weekend I when to the Seattle Knitting & Fiber Arts Expo and found a pattern at Toots LeBlanc & Co. booth I’m really excited to get started on it.

Alex update...

Alex got his stitches out today and he’ doing great. I don’t have a photo without the stitiches but here’s one with his stitches still in, you cant really tell they're there. It’s so nice to see him back to normal. Now he can rub his little face into the carpet or grass and get all spunky. Fills my heart.

I’m working on a couple of knitting projects right now. First, I finished my fingerless gloves and I’m really enjoying them.

Now I’m working on a sweater for Alex, I have started it 4 x’s now and am a bit frustrated but I'm determine. The very first project I every started (about 8 years ago) was a sweater for Alex poor thing, I had no idea what I was doing, in order for him to wear it he would have had to lay flat on the ground with his front legs extended away from his body, I totally had the leg holes in the wrong place. So then a couple of weeks ago I ripped it out and started a new one. Well, that one didn’t turn out very well either so once again I ripped it out. So now i'm on the 3rd one which I miss understood the directions, I started at the neck and was knitting in the round WRONG! so I ripped it out and now have this...

the directions were to start at the tail and work up the back and at about 1/3 of the way you start knitting in the round. I’m at the arm holes now but am a bit lost so I’m going to meet with a friend next week and see if I can get some help.

I’m also working on another pair of socks, I have the write amount of stitches so they will fit my calf. I’m loving the ribbing on this one thanks to Patti for telling me about this pattern.

Oh, and I did something I’ve never done before, I made biscotti's! They turned out so great and really were very easy to make. To be honest, I cant remember the last time I even baked something. I took them for a tea party my friend Caitlin had. It was a very nice time and my biscotti's were a hit.

Home with my pup

Alex and I are back from Spokane where he had his surgery. It was difficult for both of us. Broke my heart to see him go though what he had to go though but Dr. Yakely at the Animal Eye Clinic and his technician Debbie where amazing. They were so wonderful to both Alex and myself. They let me be with Alex up until his surgery, I was able to hold him when they gave him the sedative again when they gave him the anesthesia and even when they put the little breathing tube down his throat. Then after the surgery they brought him to my all wrapped up in a warm blanket so I could hold him while he came out of the anesthesia.

Here’s a picture of my baby before and after....

Earlier this year.

Alex just arrived home laying on top of mommy still so sleepy.

The next day, he looks like he's not feeling well and so sad.

I don’t have a photo with the bandages off yet.

The one thing I hadn't anticipated was that he would become depressed. It broke my heart watching him have no smile that is until today or should I say late this afternoon. I finally found something he would eat (he hadn't been eating) he wolfed down cottage cheese of all things. After he ate he actually wanted to play, it filled my heart to see him getting his spunk back and his smile.

I thought I would get a lot of knitting done while I was East of the mountains and I did start a sweater for Alex but it looks to small so I’m going to rip it out and start over, until then Alex will just have to wear one of his store bought sweaters.

Keeping up

Seems like I haven't done a very good job with posting lately. I've been extremely busy with things like, finishing up a contract web job, working on my new website (to be announced later), making beads, making jewelry and the dreaded Taxes.

Saturday Alex and I leave for Spokane, he's scheduled for surgery on Monday so we're heading out a few day's early to go hang with my friend Terri. I'll be glad when this is all over. it's hard to watch him get all spunky and goes to rub his head into the carpet and then he yelps because he hurt his eye. or when we go to bed and Dan or myself accidentally bump his eye (it's only happened a couple of time but to me that's a couple of times to many). and then there a those days when you can tell Alex is just not feeling so well. anyway, it will be good when it's all over.

I haven't had much time to knit but last night I finally said "enough of all this other stuff I'm going to knit" it was so nice to just sit and knit, I wish I could find more time for it. I'm almost done with my fingerless gloves and am excited to start on my new project... a sweater for Alex. I've had the yarn for a couple of years and even started one for him but the leg placement was a little off, poor dog, he would have to lay flat with his legs straight out the sides.

Another Day Another Yarn

Ha, bet that got your attention. Tt really should read "another day another website" that's what I've been working on all day trying to finish up some websites that I've been working on and I'm happy to say THERE DONE! now I just need to get paid for them.
oh but wait... I'm still working on one site that I haven't even started and need to have done by tomorrow. It's my website or at least another website for me. I have neatobeado.com but I bought the domain essentialvessel.com for my vessel line which I want to have separate from neatobeado. I really want to get those vessels out in the market place. they really are wonderful, you put essential oil in them and then ware them. the aroma come up through the cork and you get these wonderful whiff of aroma. I have them in a shop here in town and they are doing great so it's time to hit the market place big time (well, as big as I can manage to keep up with (did that make sense?))

on the knitting front...
I'm about a 1/4 of the way done with my second glove and cant wait to get a chance to sit and knit some more. oh, and I found this great website last night (when I should of been working)it's called Cast-On it's a podcast for knitters. I only got a chance to listen to the first two episodes but what I heard I enjoyed. fun to listen to someone tell you stories and play fun music while you knit.

on the Alex front...
I made his doctors appointment for April 17th, I'll be driving to Spokane (ya, along way to go for a vet but it's worth it $$ wise) and I'll be staying with my friend Terri (a wonderful potter!) who lives in Ritzville. I'm looking forward to spending some time with her AND she's the best cook, so I'll get to eat some yummy food.

better get back to work, need to get that site done.

Happy April

Wow, I am so glad that March is over, it has been a difficult month, it's been one thing after another. I’m counting on April to bring good things into my life. One of the big issues has been my little Alex becoming sick and needing surgery.

isnt he the cutest???

Alex is the love of my life, I don’t have children but he has filled that space. Alex developed glaucoma (over night) and needs his eye removed. This has been heart breaking but it’s what he needs. One of the other worries is the fact that he’s 13 and to undergo such a major surgery is scary but when the vet called with his pre-op blood test results she said she’s never seen results so good (more than good), for a dog his age. I’m going to head out to Spokane for the surgery it’s 1/2 the price if I head out there and when I say 1/2 the price I’m talking about saving $400.00. I have a friend out there that I can stay with and it will be nice to get to visit with her. We’ll be heading for Spokane end of next week.

Dealing with all this has been difficult and to top it off our cat Shiva who's 18 became deathly ill, we thought we were going to loose her but after a trip to the vet and antibiotic she’s back to her old self, if we can just get some weight on her.

On the knitting front...

I’ve been having a great time knitting up my hand died yarn, I have enjoyed it so much I’ve already started on the second glove. I actuly started off making sock’s but 1/2 way through I realized that it wouldn't be a bit tight over my calf so I decided to turn it into a glove. I’m one of those who almost never gets the second one of anything done, the second sock, the second glove. I get board using the same yarn but for some odd reason that’s not the case using yarn I died myself, I’m excited about every stitch. Here’s a photo of the first glove.

Somethings Fishy...

I’m avoiding getting to work, I haven't done anything work related today and I’m feeling bad about it. I did however volunteer at Venue a gallery where I have some of my work and then I went for a job interview. The job interview made me sad. It’s not a job I want and it pay’s nothing but I need work and I cant seem to get back into the Web industry so I’m stuck applying for things that I have no interest in and that pay squat. I guess I should feel thankful that I at least had an interview, it’s the first one I’ve had in 2 years. Is that crazy or what???

I thought I should upload some photo’s of some of my work. Here are a couple of fishys, I’ve been trying to make as many as possible, they've been flying I mean swimming out the door ; )

Dyeing fun

What fun I had last night! I was feeling down in the dumps but I forced myself to get out of the house and head over to Patti’s for our “Tuesday Craft Night”. Patti showed me how to die yarn and I just love the way it came out, I cant wait to knit it up, what cool socks they’ll be. I now all excited to die more yarn (as if I don’t have enough hobbies) so I can hang it around the house and just stare at all the wonderful colors.

I’m still have a few more bead orders to get out. One customer ordered a flower garden bead which I have made several for her to choose from but now I need to photograph them and send her the photos so she can choose one. My very least favorite thing is to photograph my beads, it’s so much work!!! I spend more time taking the photo, editing the photo (so it actually looks like the real thing) and getting it posted on my site then it actually took me to make the darn thing. I just cant seem to get the whole photography thing down so it’s quick and painless.

Busy making fishys

Last year I was on HGTV’s “Crafters Coast to Coast” which is now called “That’s Clever” well the show aired again and I have gotten so many orders. I’m constantly runny to the studio to make more fishys it’s been lots of fun and keeping my very busy.

I also finished a sock and it’s the ugliest sock I’ve ever made, not to sure what happened so I think I’ll turn it into a sock monkey.

starting out...

I've spent a lot of time wondering why people want to blog so now here I am doing it myself but truly this is an experiment. I want to see what the fuss is all about. personally I hate to write and really cant find much in my life to write about plus I hate that its out there for someone to read and to perhaps hold against you or throw it in your face at a later date. Writing seems so permanent. but here i am giving it a try. so let's see what happens...

haven't been struck by lighting yet.
